Grime artist Stormzy has helped significantly increase the number of black students taking up places at Cambridge Uni.

He has decided to fund the tuition fees and living costs of 2 black students each year.  And it’s worked.  The number of black freshers in 2019 is a record high of 91, significantly higher than the 61 black freshers in the previous year.

Stormzy kindly gives the credit to the University, and it’s African Caribbean Society, for making the difference.  There’s still a long way to go, though.  This year’s record intake of black students is just 3% of the total.  Over UK universities as a whole the figure is almost 8%.
